We Really Need Your Help

Would you consider giving $50?

Medicine Horse Program served nearly 400 at risk and low income children in 2009. But as our granting comes through for 2010, some of our biggest funders are letting us know that their own budgets have been cut, some by over 50%. Because of the economic crisis, one of our biggest funders is focusing their support only on global issues and is no longer supporting local agencies. Corporate sponsors, facing losses in sales, are also making cutbacks in giving.

Equineability, a very popular group therapy program for the developmentally delayed, in collaboration with Imagine, will be shut down because funding through Imagine has been cut. These at-risk young adults, facing severe emotional issues as well as developmental delays, have been coming to Medicine Horse for over two years. Without your help, they will no longer be able get the therapy they need at Medicine Horse.

As we finalize our 2010 budget, Medicine Horse Program faces a $30,000 loss due to cutbacks in grants alone. Charities around the United States are all feeling the strain and some have shut down.

We serve our clients on a sliding scale. No child is ever turned away. Even as funding dwindles, we face increased need, more and more calls are coming in from parents, schools and therapists. These are kids who are grieving, who are in deep depression, who are in transition to foster homes, and who are facing problems with the law. These are the children of Colorado, they are our neighbor's children, and they are our children. They have no insurance. Free local mental health clinics have shut their doors due to the economy. There are few options left. These kids deserve our help.

If every person on our mailing list sends a mere $50, we would overcome this potential loss. We would be able to serve the children who really need us. Every penny counts. Please dig deep. Please use the donate now button or mail a check.

We can't thank you enough. - Kathy Johnson, Executive Director
